This special methylated spirit is made from our standard grade (SG) ethanol to which a denaturant (chemical) is added to render the ethanol non-potable. A variety of denaturants are available for blending with ethanol. The most suitable denaturant would depend on your intended purpose. Please contact us for advice on the correct form of special methylated spirits for your application.
To purchase ethanol grades, an Australian Tax Office (ATO) permit may be required in some circumstances. Please contact us or the ATO to understand your obligations.
Special methylated spirits are used in all applications and are not intended for human consumption.
Common denaturants used in partly denatured products are:
- F2 - 0.5% diethyl phthalate
- F3 - 2% methanol
- F4 – tertiary butyl alcohol
